Advanced Behavior Change teaches meaningful, individualized skills to children, teens, and parents using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is a scientifically valid and effective intervention based on the principles of learning and behavior. It has been identified as one of the most effective approaches for helping children with Autism improve their social, language, and life skills. In addition to applying the principles of ABA to develop new behaviors and reshape old behaviors, Dr. Hudson uses Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) to help clients identify their values and commit to taking action to align their lives with those values.

Social Skills Groups
First and foremost, our social skills groups are focused on learning and having fun in the context of real-life practice. We practice things like turn taking, effective communication, good sportsmanship, conversation skills, and self-advocacy while we…play games…do group projects…hang out with peers. All of our social skills groups use assessments and teaching strategies that are evidence-based and tailored to each client, with a focus on giving our clients skills to be independent and graduate out of groups as soon as they can. Some of the curricula we use with our clients include:
Clients are grouped by age and need and groups meet weekly for 90 minutes.
individual aba therapy
Individual ABA therapy targets skills more intensively in more frequent and focused sessions. An initial assessment is conducted and individualized goals are written based on the client’s starting point. The focus of therapy can include increasing positive skills, such as communication, social, and adaptive skills, and decreasing problem behavior. All instruction is provided with the goals of keeping the client engaged, having fun, and wanting to learn. Individual ABA instruction includes a mix of Natural Environment Teaching and Discrete Trial Training. Sessions are limited to 2 hours each in order to provide focused instruction and maintain motivation. A minimum commitment of 6 hours of service per week is required in order to facilitate growth and generalization of skills.
Parent Training
Parent training focuses on teaching parents how to apply the principles of ABA at home. We will work on identifying what is happening, why it’s happening, and what we can change to make life easier for you and your child. Strategies we can use during parent training vary based on your home environment, needs, and long-term goals. We’ll do an introduction or review of the behavioral principles that would be most helpful for your family, and then apply those to your needs. We might work on creating a family schedule, appropriately using a token economy, setting up written or visual instructions for chores, or improving the quality of sibling interactions. Using telehealth, we can support you during trickier times of the day (e.g., dinner, bedtime, chores) and give you suggestions in the moment about how to make that time more successful. In addition, you’ll learn how to take the same principles and techniques and apply them to new situations that come up at home.
Executive functioning training
Executive functioning (EF) support is designed to help clients get better at being able to “plan their work and work their plan.” The work our clients do ranges from setting up and putting away toys and games, to following a schedule, to cleaning their room, to researching a topic and writing a paper. All of these things require executive functioning skills, and EF training helps clients learn how to complete a task from start to finish. We work on helping clients identify barriers to planning and following through, and then helping them develop their own unique strategies to overcome these barriers.
toilet training
ABA-based toilet training support is appropriate if your child does not have an underlying medical condition that is preventing them from being independent with toileting. We will review your family’s routine, determine which skills your child needs to develop, develop a plan and goals, provide instruction for your household, and monitor progress toward goals. Toilet training support is designed to be provided in a short-term consultative model.
